Let me tell you a quick story about my lost tax check. Yes, even me, with a nearly flawless paper management system, lost a check.

I’d spend weeks on the phone going back and forth with the state about a mix up. on my property. It was one of those things where the city said one thing and the state said another.

Meanwhile, I was (potentially) losing hundreds of dollars a year. I finally got someone on the phone who could help me. I end that call by asking the operator, “Can I speak to your boss? I’d like him to know what a good employee you are.” I was on hold an extra 30 minutes for that. :)

Anyway. The check came two weeks later. I went to cash it, and it was gone.

Now here is the thing, I knew the check was gone within minutes. I didn’t have to spend hours looking for it. I have a system that has worked for me (and my clients) for years now, and because I have system for my papers,I was easily able to locate the information I needed to reorder the check. A replacement came a few weeks later.
